THE IGNOBILITY OF ENVY

Haba, King Saul!
You forgot that you’re an elder!
You forgot your throne!
You forgot your honor!
You forgot your dignity!
You forgot your nobility!
You abandoned the care for your family, office, and the whole nation and people of Israel in pursuit of David’s life.

Haba, King Saul!
You abandoned your God-given tasks in pursuit of an harmless David! You left your royalty and suddenly became a wonderer, moving from town to town, from forest to forest, from hill to hill, and from cave to cave in search of just one man, David. You were moving about with thousands of soldiers as though you were going to war. Haba, King Saul!

Hear our envy-ladden King of Israel speak back to David after the latter had graciously preserved his life from death: “Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Come back, David my son. Because you considered my life precious today, I will not try to harm you again. Surely I hate acted like a fool and have been terribly wrong…Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, David my son; you will do great things and surely triumph”” (2 Samuel 26:22, 25).

In his bid to bring David down, Saul brough himself down instead. That’s usually the fate of individuals who surrender the wheels of their lives to resentment.
What a shame! Haba, King Saul!

Envious people have only one pursuit in life – to bring others down. That’s the only way they feel ‘normal’. But thanks be to our God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who always grants us victory over them and their wicked schemes. You’ll win in the end, my friend!
